Himalaya Airlines releases its CSR Report for the pandemic years

Himalaya Airlines, is always keen in working with stakeholders so as to help navigate the future growth of a safe and sustainable air transport industry and since its initial years of establishment, H9 has been actively engaged in CSR undertakings. Outlining its various CSR initiatives of 2020-2021, the airlines released its CSR Report for the pandemic years during a Press Meet held at Hotel Radisson on Aug 03, 2022.

Over the past few years, Himalaya has gradually developed a holistic approach towards the betterment of the society, continuing to support the nation in many ways aligning with its core CSR objectives: Economic Prosperity, Environmental Sustainability and Societal Responsibility.  This is the first report published by Himalaya that details H9's approach and progress on these contributions.

Mrs Ujjwala Dali, Head of Department - Brand and Mr. Rajesh Prasad Shrestha, Head of Department-Maintenance and Engineering released the company report amidst the gathering of national and international media fraternity. A synopsis video highlighting H9’s CSR engagements was also shared during the press meet. 

On the release of the report, Mr. Ujjwala Dali remarked “Past two years have been challenging as COVID-19 pandemic disrupted people’s lives and overturned businesses and economies worldwide. During these challenging times pushing all boundaries and limitations, not only did Himalaya try its best to survive but also kept its commitment for the betterment of the society and has been able to make significant contributions in all possible ways. Overall growth and social welfare are two key facets of our business to which we consistently commit ourselves for securing a growth-oriented future trajectory of our business.”

With the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, recognizing that CSR role has become more critical than ever Himalaya strode frontward contributing Rs. one million to Government COVID-19 Fund, operating cargo flights for COVID-19 essential medical supplies, bringing back stranded passengers from various countries, donating medical supplies to various hospitals etc. Company’s CSR activities got more focused in 2021 when H9 stepped forward to stand firmly with the Government of Nepal and operated four free cargo flights worth Rs.2.25 Crores for bringing in 200000 doses of Vero cell vaccines at the critical hour.

The airlines also has Prayas Nepal, a non-government organization under its CSR banner for the past five years and has been making significant contribution annually for the underprivileged children pursuing its “Step Towards Education” program helping the children to realize their dreams.

The CSR Report provides an overview of H9’s performance and company’s CSR highlights with respect to five key areas: Contribution to Economic Prosperity, Environmental Sustainability, Societal Responsibility, Operational highlights, and Quality Management System.

H9 Introduction

Himalaya Airlines (H9) a Nepal – China joint venture was established in 2014, with two core objectives; to promote people to people contact of Nepal with the other countries and to promote Nepal’s trade and tourism.

H9 is the joint alliance between Tibet Aviation Development & Investment Company Ltd. (TADIC) from Tibet Autonomous Region of The People’s Republic of China and Yeti World Investment Pvt. Ltd. of Kathmandu, Nepal. 

Within a short span of seven years of establishment, H9 acquired 4 aircraft in its fleet; three Airbus 320-214 configured with 180 all-economy seats and one Airbus 319-115 with 144 economy seats. H9 is currently operating passenger flights to prominent countries of Middle East & South Asia: UAE, Malaysia, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bangladesh whereas cargo flights exclusively to & from China.

In the first year of commercial operations, H9 received the international award for “Leading New International Airlines in South Asia” at South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2017.

In August 2020, Himalaya Airlines secured its first ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management Systems (QMS) confirming Himalaya Airlines’ competency in providing Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering services in line with the Airline’s vision of offering highest possible standards in every area of its operation.

On December 29 2021, Himalaya Airlines became the first airline in Nepal to successfully achieve ISO 9001-2015 QMS certification. The airlines received the certificate in recognition of the organization’s Quality Management System (QMS) complying with ISO 9001-2015.  The ISO certificate has been earned for “Providing Air Transport for Traveling Passengers and Freight, including Aviation Related Training Services.”  The achievement demonstrates the team’s dedication to high performance work practices and a confirmation of the airlines’ ongoing commitment to quality.                                                    

To ensure flying with Himalaya is safer than ever before, starting 2021, Himalaya Airlines introduced Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) a life-saving device onboard all its fleet. With this, Himalaya Airlines stands to be the first ever and the only Nepalese airlines to carry AEDs onboard. With the aim to excel in safety, on time performance (OTP) and most primarily, in service to its customers, H9 has established itself as a trusted airline of choice and aspires to rise as a leading airline in South Asia.
