PATA Nepal Chapter holds HCD Workshops by Prof. Kaye Chon

ATA Nepal Chapters’ three day Human Capital workshop commenced on February 7, 2016 and concluded on February 9, 2016 covered Tourism, World And Your Career for Students and Innovations And Leadership In Hospitality And Tourism for Executives and Management level participants from the Tourism Industry.

Tourism, World, and Your Career

On 7 February 2016, PATA Nepal Chapter organized a Human Capital Development Workshop on “Tourism world and Your Career” by Professor Kaye Chon (Dean, School of Hotel management and Tourism) at Global Academy of Tourism & Hospitality Education College for students only.

Professor Chon (Ph.D., CHE, FIH) is a winner of the famous Ulysses prize known as “Nobel Prize in Tourism” from United Nation World Tourism Organization and a Chair professor at Hong Kong Polytech University. He has authored and edited eight books, published over 200 papers in international journals, taught for over 30 years, received “Teaching Excellence Award” twice, “Research Excellence Award” five times and many notable awards for his contribution and service in Tourism research and sphere.

A total of 200 students participated in the workshop.  Students from Global Academy of Tourism & Hospitality Education, Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management, Kathmandu Academy of Tourism & Hospitality, Nepal Academy of Tourism & Hotel Management, Nepal College of Travel & Management (NCTTM), Mid-Valley International College and Xavier International participated in the one day workshop.

The workshop reiterated the concept of Tourism and the content was open for discussion. Prof. Chon addressed the future of tourism and what it has in stored for the students in the future. Moreover, Prof. Chon addressed skills crucial for career development in the Tourism Industry; how to plan, negotiate, execute, and find solutions. Also, counseled them on the career opportunities in Tourism Industry. Overall, the workshop ended with highly motivated student participants and better understanding of the Tourism industry and the future it holds.

PATA Nepal Chapters’ HCD workshop on Innovation & Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism

The following day, workshop on Innovation and Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism exclusively for the representatives of Tourism Industry in Nepal was continued by Prof. Chon.    The main focus of the two-day workshop was to address the concerns in leadership through bringing in visible changes in the planning and innovation strategies of the individual level to better understand destination marketing, analyzing promotional goods and sharpening communication skills.

A total of approximately 170 participants from travel agents, tour operators, hoteliers, airlines and media house participated in this workshop. Through this workshop they were able to delve into understanding and accepting challenges and threats in the concerned industry and innovating ways to transcend. Also, an opportunity to study Marketing strategies of distinguished companies in the Hospitality and Tourism industry.
